Your Kitchen Helpers Amazing Appliances
Can you imagine your life without your microwave, the food processor or the coffee machine that doles out the first cup of your much needed dose of caffeine. The modern kitchen is blessed with the most ingenious appliances that have become such an integral part of our lives that we never realize how important they are until one of them breaks down. How your appliances treat you reflects on how you treat them. Like they say what goes around comes around. Your little helpers require just a bit of regular care and cleaning. Remember to wipe the surface clean every time you use an appliance and apply an appliance cleaner and waxer to leave your gadget squeaky clean. Let us now concentrate on some of these gadgets and the attention they require.
Your Microwave :
The best preventive measure you can take against spills and a mess inside a microwave is to use a microwave food cover that prevents splatters. These food covers are available in different sizes to cater to all your cooking needs. You can try using a microwave oven cleaner that helps clean out grease and stuck-on food effortlessly. To eliminate any unwanted smells add two tablespoons of lemon juice to two cups of water in a large microwave safe bowl and microwave for two to three minutes on high. This not only helps get rid of the smell but also loosens any food particles that may be stuck to the inside surface; just wipe clean. Another way to eliminate an unwanted aroma and replace it with your favorite one is to wipe the microwave surfaces with an essence of your liking such as vanilla or peppermint.
The Dishwasher :
Since the very purpose of your dishwasher is to clean so it is understandable that you may think it cleans it self. However often the interior surface of the dishwasher is lined with leftover soap film. To remove this, simply run a cup of white vinegar through an entire dishwashing cycle in an empty dishwasher. Also use a natural descaler to get rid of hard water stains and deposits.
Your Refrigerator :
Make cleaning the interior of the refrigerator a weekly ritual the day before you stock up on groceries and vegetables. Throw out any old food, and wipe the surface with a mild cleaning solution. To eliminate strong odors such as that of garlic or onions utilize a natural crystal deodorizer. This has natural mineral salts that absorb the unwanted smells. Also adding a bit of lemon juice to the rinse water leaves the fridge smelling fresh. Last but not the least use a refrigerator coil brush to remove dust, dirt and grime from the coils and thereby increasing the efficiency of the refrigerator and reducing your electricity bills.
The Oven :
If yours is not a self cleaning oven then scrape off any large spills and spray an oven cleaner that dissolves carbon, grease and food particles. Preferably choose a cleaner that works on both hot and cool surfaces. Let the cleaner work its magic and leave the oven alone for as long as the instructions suggest or over night. Then use an oven spray that creates a silicon finish making future cleaning easier.
Your Coffee Machine :
Every few weeks fill the water reservoir of your coffee machine with equal parts of water and vinegar and put it through a brew cycle. Then rinse a couple of times with fresh water by running it in the brew cycle. In addition use a descaler to remove hard water deposits from the machine.
The Blender and the Food Processor :
The easiest way to clean the blender is to add a few drops of dishwashing liquid soap to warm water and fill the jug halfway, then cover and blend away the dirt and stains. To rinse blend a few times with clear warm water. In addition wash the empty and dirty blender and processor as soon as you are done using it; this will prevent the food particle from settling on the surface. If you have been using eggs in the machine then use warm water with lemon juice and blend the smell away. Always ensure that the washed parts are dried clean before putting them away in order to avoid foul smell and microbial growth.
Your Garbage Disposal System :
It almost works like magic when it comes to removing the trash. However if you aren't careful it can stink up your entire kitchen. To avoid this utilize a disposal cleaner and deodorizer that freshens your garbage disposal system by removing deposits of food and grease that cause foul sink odor. If your dishwasher drains through the disposal system then switch it on when the hot water is running through it to clean it well.
