Unfortunately, it receives only scanty attention as far as keeping it healthy is concerned, mostly; our efforts are directed towards making our skin look beautiful from the outside. Our skin is in fact the part of our body that comes into maximum contact with external elements and hence needs to be taken care of, so that it can recuperate from the wear and tear of daily exposure. The skin is also susceptible to diseases like eczema, psoriasis, acne and even cancer.
The best way to keep the skin healthy is by following a diet that includes all the nutrition required to keep the skin glowing and wrinkle free. It is, actually care taken from within that really makes the skin look good and enables it to perform its functions optimally.
The health of our skin is linked to the health of our digestive system, if toxins are not excreted, they accumulate in our system and travel to various body cells via the blood stream and spread the toxicity. Acne is one such condition that can result if toxins are not eliminated from the system. Roughage should be included in the diet to aid digestion and refined flour and sugars should be avoided. Fruits and whole grains should be added to the diet. Essential fatty oils, Vitamin A and E are especially beneficial to the skin. The skin stays firm and healthy if it is properly hydrated, therefore drinking around 6-7 glasses of water is recommended. Water is also the carrier for the toxins that the skin excretes when we sweat.
Creams and lotions with natural oils are a healthier option than those which are petroleum based.
