Secrets to Stain Free Upholstery

All of us have spent plenty of time and money into the upholstery of our choice. From deliberation on color coordination, design to the choice of fabric a lot of effort goes into making up the home’s living room. This is usually where you entertain guests and are at your best. And sadly this very vital part of your home is most vulnerable to stains and spots. If you have any doubts in this regard, think back to the last guest who spilt a drink, or a snack on the floor or when your teenaged son back from a good game of football stepped on to your precious carpet with muddy shoes. Stains and spots are a part of any area where people live and interact, the sooner we accept this the easier it is to keep a calm mind while attempting to clean a dirty couch or carpet.

A few key points to be kept in mind while handling stains and spots are:

  • The earlier you handle a stain the better it is. A stain that has dried and set in is far tougher to remove than a fresh one.

  • Always check the fabric for the manufacture’s instructions about the care for the fabric.

  • If you are using a stain remover on a material for the first time and are unsure about how fast the color is then first test the stain remover on the fabric at an out-of-sight part of it. If the color bleeds then you will need to dry clean the cloth or else use the stain remover with no worries.

  • When buying upholstery always buy fast colors.

  • Never try to remove a stain by trying to rub it off, this will only make matters worse and set the stain in well.

For stains on a rug or carpet or even for that trampled upon look use a cleaner that has a foam formula that cleans down to the fibers. Choose a product that works efficiently on soil, animal and food stains, and freshens your carpet by working out those trafficways caused by all the feet movement on it. For spots and stains on upholstery that cannot be washed in the machine simply use a stain remover that requires to be just sprayed at the effected area and works its wonders by leaving no semblance of a stain. For leather chairs and couches utilize a cleaning product created for the cleansing leather whilst softening and protecting it. This product could also be used for your vinyl and plastic surfaces.

For curtains and other upholstery that can be safely washed in the machine check for any stains and spots. If you find any then before you put it for a wash just apply a stain removal liquid formula or spray and allow it to set in and weaken the stain. Use a biodegradable and phosphate free formula that works out the toughest stains and spots within minutes of soaking and treats your fabrics with care. Before placing a cloth material that was earlier stained into the dryer, again check for stains. Never iron a stained textile as this will only set in the stain permanently. So next time you find your self in a tough stain situation remember help is just a spray away.
