Stain Removal
Mondays are tough on all of us. After the weekend, which seemed to have wizzed past manic Monday mornings seem chaotic. On this Monday morning I put on me favorite white shirt, it always gives me a feeling that everything was going to turn out great. But of course white is the color that almost seems to attract and call out to stains so I was more careful on my way to work. With my much needed daily dose of caffeine I walked slowly but surely towards my desk only to walk right into my six foot four inch boss. While miraculously there wasn’t any spillage on my shirt, as for his clothing, well I am glad he keeps an extra set of clothes at work. What saved this tainted event was my pre-laundry stain removal stick. All in needed to do was apply it well on the fabric and the washing machine took care of the rest.
Stains and spots are tiresome and can be quite annoying. Nonetheless removal of the same can actually be fairly easy if you keep in mind some basic rules :
-
As soon as a fabric has been stained try to wash away any residue and apply a pre-wash stain removal formula. Using a formula that can be left on for a few days is convenient for this way you don’t have to do a laundry cycle immediately. A stain remover that deodorizes as it cleans is a particularly good choice.
-
Check the instructions as provided on the clothing before you proceed to clean it. If it says ‘to be dry cleaned’ do so or use a spot and stain remover made specially for dry cleanable fabrics.
-
Use a pre laundry stain removal formula that contains natural solvents and emulsifiers to break down stains in all types of water and temperatures. A stain removal spray is a convenient option too. Also while selecting a stain remover look for one that works on all types of synthetic and natural colorfast fabrics.
-
Try to use a detergent with an extra water softening agent that helps quicken the cleaning process and also keeps dirt in suspension until it is rinsed away. A biodegradable and phosphate free detergent for your laundry will clear up the toughest dirt and stains and whitens your whites and brightens colors.
-
Before putting the washed garment into the dryer check to see if the stain has been completely removed or the stain may be set permanently.
-
Similarly before ironing a garment check for any stains and spots.
-
Keep a chart on stain removal techniques for common stains in your laundry room or stick it on the wall above the machine. Some times you may make the stain worse by the manner in which you handle it. For instance use of warm or hot water on a blood stain will set it in permanently.
-
For water soluble spots on collars and cuffs utilize a spot cleaner.
-
Staining due to perspiration or deodorants can be handled by applying a stain removal formula on the discolored area and allowed to set in for a while to work its magic. Utilizing a spot remover for water soluble spots is also a good idea.
