Secrets to Beautiful Healthy Hair
Most of us remember at least one person from high school or college who had the perfect hair come rain or shine, summer or spring. She was the envied by everyone especially those whose hair seemed to have a mind of its own. Lets face it no one is born with perfect hair. So what is it that separates those few who seem to have great hair 24X7, 365 days a year, from the rest of us. Well they pay keen attention to their hair and to the basic techniques used and specific care of their hair type that it requires.
Some of these secrets are revealed:
-
Knowing your hair type is the first step in learning how to care for it. Choose the products you use and the frequency of use keeping in mind your hair type. For instance for combination hair utilize a pH balanced shampoo that is gentle on the tresses and cleanses the hair to a healthy shine. And then a conditioner that complements the shampoo.
-
Never undermine the power of conditioning. A conditioner completes the process started by the shampoo, of cleansing the hair, by sealing in moisture, creating a protective shield and smoothening the cuticle. The conditioner is applied on the hair strands and never on the scalp.
-
Use warm and not hot water then washing your hair. Warm water works up a good lather. Ensure that your hair is well drenched before you apply the shampoo. Using cold water for the last rinse leaves the hair healthier and smoother.
-
For oily hair avoid thick moisturizing shampoo, instead look for ingredients such as green tea extract, rosemary and pansy extract, vitamin A and vitamin E.
-
To add volume to your hair dry hair towards the opposite side, i.e. if you part your hair to the right, then dry it leftwards. Also avoid deep conditioning shampoos that will leave the hair flattened.
-
To repair very dry hair use a shampoo enriched with wheat and silk proteins. Witch hazel is known to heal damaged hair and add resilience while panthenol helps increase hair shaft thickness.
-
To add a shine to dull hair look for hair products with fruit acids and avoid creamy formulas that may leave a residue. Also blot excess water from the strands before applying the shampoo.
-
Blow drying, Flat ironing and curling can damage the outer cuticle of the hair, depriving it of valuable moisture. To test your hairs’ elasticity just put a strand into water if it doesn’t curl it is time to pay some TLC to your hair. As far as possible air dry your hair and whenever you use a dryer use a round hair brush with a metallic core to reflect the heat.
-
Eat a nutritionally balanced diet and add a nutrient supplement to counter the negative effects that the environmental conditions and pollution has on you.
