Uses
for Anti-Static Spray
One way to cut down on home cleaning costs is to experiment with
new uses for products you already have. One product that has many
uses and can solve a multitude of problems with static control
is an anti-static spray. Whether you are looking for home day care
supplies, housecleaning supplies, cleaning tips for pet hair, or
a protection for your valuable electronics, you can find multiple
uses for anti-static spray.
How Does Anti-Static Spray Work?
We all have experienced being shocked with static electricity.
In fact, the embarrassment caused by static electricity can be
worse than the unpleasant surprise of a static electricity shock.
What is static electricity? Static electricity is simply the result
of positive and negatively charged ions. Depending on the charge,
these ions repel and attract each other.
Anti-static spray works by neutralizing the ions of an item such
as clothes, hair, carpets, and other items. It also works by attracting
moisture out of the air, increasing the conductive properties of
the material the product was sprayed on.
Cleaning with Anti-Static Spray
Dusting can be a thankless chore. Do it one day and it needs done
the next. It isn’t the same as cleaning grease from a stove
or scuff marks from a floor. Though no cleaning project is fun,
at least you feel a sense of accomplishment when you clean something
and it stays clean for at least a few days. Unless you have mounds
of dirt on your mantle, you aren’t going to see a huge difference.
Yet, it has to be done.
Though anti-static spray is not going to permanently prevent dust
from coming back, it will keep it away longer. Spraying anti-static
spray on blinds, furniture, pictures, and TV screens can save the
hassle of having to constantly dust those items. Spraying periodically
can actually mean a lot fewer dustings, with a lot more time between
dustings.
Cleaning Tips for Pet Hair
In addition to dust, pet hair also clings to clothes, furniture,
and carpets because of static electricity. Even vacuuming can be
ineffective against the bond between carpet and pet hair.
To remove pet hair from your carpet, just spray the carpet with
an anti-static spray (Try Stanley’s Rinkle Relief). Let the
carpet sit for a little while, until the static is gone. Then,
vacuum up the loose pet hair. If you have pet hair on your clothes,
spray your clothes with anti-static spray. Let it sit a minute,
and then brush off the loose pet hair.
Protecting Electronics
Static electricity shocks are extremely damaging to electronic
equipment. In fact, static electricity shocks can actually travel
from one computer to another through certain types of cable. Static
electricity shocks are especially common during the dry winter
months. It is critical that you protect your equipment during these
times. Be sure that all electric appliances, especially computers,
are adequately grounded according to the manufacturers’ instructions.
One additional way to protect your equipment is to spray anti-static
spray on the carpeting around your computer, stereo, television
sets, and other electronic equipment. Be careful when you are spraying,
as anti-static spray is a liquid. You do not want to spray it directly
on an item that is connected to an electrical source or should
not get wet.
Cosmetic Uses
The original use for anti-static spray (Stanley’s Rinkle
Relief) was, of course, for use on your clothes. This product gets
rid of static cling and smoothes out wrinkles. However, it also
has a number of other cosmetic uses as well. In fact, many people
already carry anti-static spray as a solution for all their problems
with static control.
Anti-static spray can be effective in taming flyaway hair. All
you have to do is spray a little of the product on your comb or
brush. Then just brush or comb your hair as usual. You can also
spray the inside of a hat or the outside of clothes that are in
contact with your hair.
Other Uses for Anti-Static Spray
• Is the tinsel on your Christmas tree trying to come out
and grab you? Make it behave with anti-static spray.
• Spray loose glitter to have better control of craft projects.
The glitter won’t stick to everything and will be easier
to place. The same goes for artificial snow during the holidays.
• Use a little anti-static spray to keep a wedding veil
from clinging to itself or the bride’s hair.
• Maintain a clearer view by spraying the product on goggles,
vehicle mirrors, and glasses.
• Create anti-static wipes by spraying some baby wipes or
paper towels with anti-static spray.
You really can save money by protecting your items, and you can
save valuable time when cleaning. Anti-static spray is just one
of the many products that can serve your household in multiple
roles including problems with static control.
