Cleaning Tips
Busy people love to “get away from it all” on a camping,
hunting, or fishing trip. Unwinding in the simplicity of the outdoors,
away from telephones, radio, newspapers, and the ever present television
set is a vacation many people cherish. Most of us, however, are
not really willing to give up all our creature comforts in order
to “rough it.” Whether the trip is “just for
the guys,” or it is a family excursion, a little pre-planning
and the right mix of cleaning supplies, can allow for a simplified
vacation in the outdoors, while also avoiding the hardship and
unsanitary conditions that accompanied outdoor living in days gone
by.
Campers, fifth-wheels, or RVs are often used as portable living
quarters, even in remote places. If these vehicles are properly
stocked, they can be kept comfortable and clean with a minimum
of time and effort, while not taking up too much room in this limited
space. Your next vacation in your camper can be a pleasant experience
if you try the following personal grooming and cleaning tips:
• Purchase an assortment of miniature personal grooming
brushes that will take up little room in the camper, but will do
the job of a full-sized product. For instance, equip both your
sink area and bathroom with a small nail brush to get those fish
scales out from under your nails. Also, pack a brush that allows
you to scrub your tired feet after a day of hiking (Stanley Luxury
Bath Brush). A special soap for your tired feet would be an extra
treat. (Try Stanley Cool-a-Ped Foot Treatment.) Your vacation is
only as enjoyable if your feet feel good, so also bring along a
foot spray to use on those clean, tired toes. (Stanley Cool-a-Ped
Feet TreatMint Foot Spray)
• Bring along a heavy-duty soap(like Stanley Degreaser Concentrate)
that can clean that fish smell off hands, as well as one that can
handle most other outdoor grime. Also keep liquid hand soap near
the sink, especially if you will be handling fish or game. (Stanley
Apple Blossom Liquid Hand Soap) At the end of the day, rub a hard-working
moisturizer into the skin of your clean, hard-working hands so
they will be ready for the next day of fun. (Try Cocoa Butter Hydrating
Cream.)
• For day-trips, whether you hike or will be sitting in
a fishing boat or a hunting blind, be sure to pack some hand sanitizer
(Stanley Hand Sanitizer Wipes) and a product to clean your dark
glasses (Stanley Look See Lens Cleaner and Stanley Micro-Fiber
Lens Cloth). Many of these products are individually wrapped and
can easily fit into a pocket or hip pack.
• Be sure to pack an all-purpose detergent in your camper
in order to wash dishes, wipe off dirty surfaces, or rinse out
clothes. (Try Stanley Degreaser Concentrate) A couple of clean
sponges and a few towels that can later be hung on a line to dry
will clean up most messes.
• For the bathroom facilities in these newer vehicles, bring
along a container of sanitizing wipes or a disinfectant spray and
tissues. Taking an extra minute or two once a day to wipe surfaces
will keep sinks, toilets, and shower heads fresh and clean, and
will make the small spaces and limited water supplies more tolerable.
(A good product to try is Stanley Germ-X II Spray Disinfectant.)
These tissues will need to be disposed of properly, depending on
the restrictions for trash disposal at the campgrounds. Remember
to pack a supply of trash bags for this purpose, as well as for
your other garbage.
• Bring along a sturdy broom (Stanley Slimline Broom) and
dust pan (Stanley Clip-On Dust Pan), and a good wet mop (Stanley
Cotton Wet Mop) and bucket. These tools won’t take up much
space, and allow campers to sweep out leaves, dirt, and grass,
as well as to mop up mud and spills.
This short list of personal grooming aids, cleaning tools, and
cleaning supplies will handle most grooming and housecleaning chores
in the short term, will take up very little space in the camper,
and will allow for comfortable relaxation at the end of a long
day of hiking, fishing, hunting, or otherwise enjoying the outdoors.
